post The End

August 11th, 2008

Filed under: clubs — Alex @ 10:17 pm

The End recently relaunched their website and have gone all out on the freebies.

Apart from the standard podcasts, the site is full of interviews with artists performing at the club, busy forums and probably the best video section of any nightclub website.

There’s over 200 hours of DJ mixes from the club, with everything from Drum n Bass to deep house. Best of all, for the DJ types out there, they release a monthly compilation of high quality MP3s called “The End Recommends” which features tunes from all sorts of labels, from Brighton stalwarts Tru Thoughts and Catskills to Booka Shade’s Get Physical.

Have a look at their downloads section. Lots of nice, high quality MP3s for your aural pleasure.

It’s pretty sweet for a club to put so much effort into a free resource for the people. The End have always gone a step further to make their nights a bit special, but putting so much cool stuff on the web goes that bit further and gives weekend ravers something to mull over during those lengthy spells from 9am Monday to 5pm Friday.

post August Bank Holiday Weekend Parties

August 2nd, 2008

Filed under: upcoming events — Alex @ 12:59 pm

Pop Don’t Stop is back in style over the August Bank Holiday weekend!

Friday night (Aug 22nd) we’re throwing a Balearic beach party on the terrace at OHSO Social. Think Cafe Mambo with pebbles.

We’ll be setting up out on the terrace and get going early doors… should be on the decks by 5pm at the latest and going on ’til well after dark. We’re hoping to get some sweet projections going on the side of the building and a badboy PA outside.

Some tunes I’m looking forward to dropping:

Munk - Live Fast Die Old (The Amazing Clay Remix)

Gomma is probably my favourite label and has been for a couple of years. This remix is heavily inspired by Rio Baile Funk… in fact the beats and horns are pretty damn similar to Dona Gigi by Os Caรงadores… but that’s no bad thing! A great tempo for throwing in with the Housier stuff, this is proper summer party music.

Tone Loc - Cheeba Cheeba

One of my all time favourites… sweet Harlem Underground Band / Rick James samples with Loc waxing lyrical about the sticky green stuff over the top. “excuse me, while I call time cause I’m gonna take a few hits in the middle of this rhyme”. Awesome summer track.

Saturday we’re taking over the basement at The Globe on Middle Street.

It’s gonna be rough in the jungle baby! We’re getting in some kind of dope ass sound system and setting up in with the books again. Should be a biggie for those of you who can’t be doing with Beachdown.

Looking forward to playing stuff like:

Rainer Weiner Bassfinder - Minimal Scarf Fuckers Drown

Awesome name, hell of a tune. The rolling drums and driving bassline make this a great builder… perfect for pushing on from some more minimal tunes to something a bit messier. The MP3 was originally posted by the excellent Beeb Blog (which is always well worth a read).

Keep your eye out for more details on here in the next couple of weeks… it’s gonna be one of those sweet summer weekends.
